This is a very special Georgian Sterling Silver coffee pot with an unusual ivory handle in the shape of a snake and made by the highly celebrated silversmith, Paul Storr. Storr's work has been rightfully aclaimed as that of one of the most talented silversmiths working in Georgian England and is eagerly sought after by collectors of high quality Antique Silver. This piece is a striking example of both his artistic and creative talents. It is beautifully proportioned and superbly made with the sophistication and confidence of a master craftsman working at the peak of his powers. The body of the pot is decorated all around the center with a row of gadrooning interspersed with shell motifs and the base has been highligted with a design of elegant fluted swirls. A pretty neo-classical motif adorns the pouring lip and an acorn finial tops the lid. At the front of the pot is a beautifully-etched crest depicting a fierce griffin's head. The wonderfully imaginative ivory handle rises from graceful, meticulously-detailed silver serpentine forms covered with exquisitely-made scales and culminates in a superbly-crafted snake's head with extraordinarily realistic facial features. The pot fits neatly into its matching stand which rests upon 3 cabriole legs with paw-feet. The warming stand is decorated in the neo-classical style with gadrooning and also has 3 decorative rings atop the graceful legs. It is a truly magnificent and museum-quality item and is in immaculate condition with a lovely soft luster on the silver and a mellow soft creamy color on the ivory. It stands approx. 11 1/2" tall to the top of the handle and is approx. 7" in diameter at its widest point. This is a work of art in its own right and is fully hallmarked on both the coffee pot and the stand.
