This is a very handsome super-sized sterling silver goblet masterfully decorated in a combination of acid-etching and repousse work with birds, floral swags and a mounted horseman. The design on the body of the goblet consists of 4 separate panels which have been formed by beautifully-etched swags separated by lovely and finely-detailed repousse roses. The central panel shows a bearded man wearing a plumed hat and brandishing a saber as he gallops along with his horse. This fierce fellow is flanked on eithe side by 2 identical panels each showing a bird in full flight chasing a dragon fly. The details on all 3 of these panels have been rendered with exceptional skill and meticulous attention to detail. The fourth panel has been left blank but has not been monogrammed and shows no signs of mono removal. The interior of the goblet has been finished with a gold wash and both the base and the top rim are encircled by a garland of mixed etched and repousse flowers. The goblet is in superb condition and the quality of all the decorative elements is first rate. A full set of English hallmarks shows the head of Queen Victoria together with the leopard's head for the city of London and the date letter for the year 1868. The mark of the silversmiths, John Barnard, Edward Barnard, Walter Barnard & John Barnard is also visible. This beautiful goblet stands approx. 9 1/4" tall and measures approx. 4 1/4" in diameter. It weighs 16.5 troy ounces and is super in both size and quality.   Price: $2,000.00   Stock #AY775
