A sportsman’s flask with royal association. Made by Gorham & Co. in Providence in 1883.

Hand-hammered sterling silver. Squarish with hinged and corked-lined cover. On front a finely chased and engraved scene depicting a hooked fish being dragged out of the water to the rocky shore. Dramatic with the focus on the struggling, flapping, twisting fish. Pole holder is out of sight.

On back is engraved: “Presented To / Sir Charles Hall / by T.R.H. The Prince and / Princess of Wales / Xmas 1888”. The presenters were the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, and the recipient was appointed their attorney-general in 1877.

Fully marked including date letter and no. 105. Also stamped “Howard & Co. New-York”. Very good condition with deep patina.

Dimensions: H 6 x W 4 1/2 x D 1 in. Weight: 7.8 troy ounces. #BS815
