Large and heavy Edwardian sterling silver salver. Made by Elkington & Co. in Birmingham in 1903. Round and scrolled well and molded rim comprising c-scrolls interspersed with leaves. Four leafy-scroll supports. In well center is engraved armorial with French motto “Je me fie en dieu”.

Engraved on back: Presented / to / The Honble O. R Windsor Clive / by members of the Household / at Hewell Grange / on the occasion of / his coming of age / 23rd October 1905. Hewell Grange was the seat of the Earls of Plymouth. It was sold to the government after World War II, and was converted to a prison. The salver is a poignant memento of the Empire’s heyday and the viscount’s brief life. He died three years later on a diplomatic mission in India.
