Co. of Providence, RI is a prime example of the crystal pieces produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, commonly known as the “brilliant period” of cut glass. GORHAM SILVER OVERLAY PERFUME BOTTLE CIRCA 1890 BD680This silver overlay ruby glass perfume bottle is unusual in that it is hallmarked by the Gorham Mfg. Co. of Providence, RI with Gorham’s makers mark along with style #D943. It is therefore, of very high quality. Most perfumes made during this period are unmarked. This perfume is also unusual in that it is made of ruby colored glass and not clear glass. The Art Nouveau silver overlay decoration is beautifully engraved to emphasize the fluid motifs.
