This is a stately Pair of Georgian Regency Period Sterling Silver Wine Coasters by John Watson, Sheffield, 1819. The Wine coasters are each fully hallmarked with I.W for Watson’s maker’s mark, lion passant sterling mark, the monarch’s profile duty mark, and the Sheffield date letter mark for 1819. This regal pair of English Victorian Sterling Silver Gilt Wine Coasters was made by the venerable London silversmith, Richard Sibley, in 1839. Each is fully marked around the rim of the foot, with the maker’s mark, lion passant sterling mark, leopard’s head for London, monarch’s mark of Queen Victoria, and the date letter “D” for 1839.
