This is a monumental nautical themed silver presentation ewer. It was made by Eoff and Shepard, New York City, and was retailed by Ball, Black and Co., also of New York. Eoff and Shepard worked together from 1851 until 1862, so it may be assumed that this ewer was made circa 1855. The ewer is hallmarked under the pedestal base with Ball, Black and Co.’s retailer’s mark along with ‘E & S’ for Eoff and Shepard and ‘N.York.’ It is in the coin silver standard, which was popular at that time. This elegant early 20th Century Sterling Silver Mounted Cut Crystal Ewer was made by Tiffany & Co. of New York, circa 1905. The Sterling collar is hallmarked with Tiffany’s maker’s mark, sterling silver and “C” for pieces made between 1902 and 1907.
