Enamel Silver

Set of 8 American Modern sterling silver matchbox holders, ca 1920. Retailed by Udall & Ballou in New York. Rectangular with open ends; sides have cutout tubes. On each is applied enameled dog. Five breeds represented. On back engraved block presentation: “J.G.R. / FROM / M.A.P.” In original leather-bound case with fitted velvet, silk, and gilt-stamped retailer’s stamp. A great canine collectible. Very good condition. Scottie has minor enamel loss on tail.

Rectangular surround based on stained-glass window design with mostly white as well as some colored blocks in irregular rectilinear grid. Cutoff circle in lower-right corner of off-center window. Set of 4 gilt and enameled sterling silver place card holders. Made by David Andersen in Norway, ca 1920. Each: Clip in form of Viking boat with scrolled posts and warrior shield rim. Stealthy movement suggested by billowing sails and lapping water. Sails have enameled strips, two with red and white stripes and two with blue and white stripes. Flat oval base. Fully marked including maker’s stamp. Very good condition.

Art Deco sterling silver novelty camel flask. Made by R. Blackinton & Co. in North Attleboro, Mass., ca 1930. Rectilinear and gently curved; cover hinged and cork-lined. On front, in black enamel is a drooping dromedary. On back, the beast is revived, standing tall with head raised. A powerful testimony to the benefits of rehydration. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. 9714. Very good condition.

Midcentury Modern sterling silver basket. Retailed by Cartier in New York. Rectangular with straight sides. Plain rim and fixed c-scroll handle with “stitched” rims. Woven strips. Overflowing gilt-enameled strawberry plants with lush fruit and irregular leaves. Basket marked “© Cartier Hand Made Sterling”. Good condition. A few minor enamel losses.

German 800 silver cigarette case, ca 1910. Rectangular and hinged with curved corners. On cover are enameled sin symbols: Women (opera girl), wine (champagne), and gambling (cards and ponies). Three vices – but smoking is not among them. Marks include maker’s stamp (Louis Kuppenheim) and no. 130. Very good condition with intact color.
