Throughout the world, cigar accessories were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when over 70% of all males were smokers. This is a prime example of the “hunt” style cigar cutter used by smokers during that time period. Therefore, there was an abundance of smoking accessories produced during that period to accompany the ritual of cigar smoking. This is truly a cigar aficionado’s delight! A sterling silver box with a cigar cutting mechanism on top and a small button that when pressed releases and reveals a box behind the match striker plaque below it. It was made in London by Cooke & Kelvey in 1916. It is fully hallmarked. Also, it was then retailed in Calcutta as is noted on the box. It is very condition. The box measures 4 in. X 2 ¾ in. at its base and stands 3 1/8 in. high.
