Repousse Sterling Silver Porringer 1903 BE928This porringer was made by the New York silversmiths, Howard and Company, in 1903. The rim of the body and pierced handle is beautifully decorated with an applied border of scrolls and foliate motifs. This porringer is so magnificently designed and executed, that it serves many purposes other than a baby’s porringer. It could be used for candies, nuts or bonbons, as well. Weight: 9 Troy Ounces. English Sterling Silver Baby Shoe Chester 1910 AX959An Antique English Sterling Silver Figural Baby Shoe given to commemorate the birth or Christening of a child. A perforated band across the toe of the shoe mimics the look of a child’s Oxford saddle shoe. The shoe is mounted on a wooden form as the “sole”. The original pin cushion has been replaced with new emerald velvet and a new tie has been laced into the eyelets. Script engraving on the side of the shoe reads “Little McCauley 25/12/10”. Antique Sterling Silver Cup By Wood & Hughes C. 1880 BE225of cylindrical form, with molded rim and tapered base, the body repousse on each side with Japonesque dragonflies, flower heads and reeds, on an engraved bordered foot, the handle cast with Japonesque foliate motifs. Height: 3 3/8 inches.
This cup is very high styled in design. Admiral Perry opened up trade with Japan in the 1860’s. In the 1870’s, Japanese influence in the arts began to emerge. This cup typifies the movement of Japonism in the arts.
