Classical coin silver baby cup. Made by John L. Westervelt in New York, ca 1860. Straight and gently tapering sides, capped s-scroll handle, and beaded rims. Two rondels interspersed with fleurs de lys and inset with male and female Renaissance profiles. Large round cartouche with strapwork border (vacant). A beautiful example of the Medallion motif that Westervelt also used on his flatware. Marked “J. L. W.” Very good condition with strong definition.

Upward tapering sides and scroll handle. Acid-etched frieze depicting sailor-suited, flag-holding, all-American boy with exotic coevals in native dress relegated to background. Symbolic imagery enhanced with verse: “Little Indian, Sioux or Crow, little frosty Eskimo, little Turk or Japanese—Oh! Don’t you wish that you were me?”

Two heads with pointy ears and fat paws peep above a brick wall. Fine evocation of the intense and super-serious feline stare that does not yet appear to have noticed the lone mouse. Hallmark includes pattern no. 17093A (first produced in 1907) and director’s letter m (1907-47). Very good condition.
