Art Deco sterling silver footed bowl. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1914. Shallow and octagonal with flat rim; raised and stepped support. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern no. 18780 (first produced in 1914), and director’s letter m. Very good condition.

American Midcentury Modern sterling silver compote. Round bowl with wide and flat rim and domed foot. Support in form of four cast vertical acanthus leaves. A stylish Danish-influenced design by an unknown maker. Marked “Sterling” with initials RF in chamfered rectangles. Very good condition.

Danish Midcentury Modern sterling silver compote. Wide and round bowl mounted to shaft with understated Classical ornament: Urn with bold and stylized leaf-and-dart ornament on sides, in turn mounted to baluster with half fluting; wavy borders. Domed foot. Visible hand hammering. Fully marked including maker’s stamp for Roif Fritiof Bratland, who was active from 1956-73, as well as no. 85A. Very good condition.

Midcentury Modern sterling silver compote. Made by William G. DeMatteo in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Round and wide bowl on twisted shaft mounted to domed and beaded foot. Mounted to bowl underside is floral band comprising seed-spilling buds. Visible hand hammering. Marked “Sterling” with maker’s stamp. Very good condition.

Super stylish Art Deco sterling silver compote. Round bowl with flared rim and curved and tapering sides. Ovoid support with Bakelite band to round foot with same. Visible hand hammering with nice shimmer. Italian marks (1934-44) including unidentified Roman maker’s stamp (14 Roma) and Milan retailer’s stamp (Fratelli Veneziani). Good condition. Bakelite crack on foot.

Pair of Victorian Classical sterling silver compotes. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Each: Round solid well and concave sides with pierced leafing scrollwork; raised foot. Rims have applied leafing scrollwork and buds that suggest the influence of Chrysanthemum. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern no. 8743, and director’s letter T (1892-1902). Very good condition.

Classical sterling silver compote. Made by John Wendt for Ball, Black in New York, ca 1870. Round and curved bowl mounted to open support comprising three leafing oak shoots with acorns inset with cast figure of standing boy holding a ball in each hand with one arm raised. Domed foot. Reeding and beading.

A fashionable centerpiece evocative of youth and growth. The figure suggests the influence of the Dancing Faun, the ancient statue in the Uffizi in Florence that was a grand tour icon. The... Click for details

American Classical sterling silver compote. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1876. Bellied bowl with leaf-mounted c-scroll side handles and knopped stem flowing into round and raised foot. Low-relief ornament on stippled ground. Bowl has wraparound frieze with garlands, leafing volute scrolls, and leaf-ornamented columns between tête à tête gryphons. On foot rim is a garland held up by dancing putti. Bowl interior gilt.

Greek Revival sterling silver footed bowl. Made by Grosjean & Woodward for Tiffany & Co. at 550 Broadway in New York. Bowl wide and shallow with flat fretwork rim. Ornament applied to exterior: Medallions inset with male youth heads surrounded by leaf-and-berry branches. Bowl underside center has petal lobing to which are mounted two side handles with stylized leaf-caps on split volute scroll terminals. Classical sterling silver bird bath compote. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Shallow bowl with turned-down rim and raised foot. Two cast bird figures with voluminous plumage and flamboyant crowns perch on bowl rim, ready to cluck and flap and flutter. Stylized and raised ornament on rim, including leaf-and-dart and dentil. Fully marked with pre-1875 pattern no. 3739 and directors’ letter M (1873-91). Very good condition with deep patina.

Set of 4 Southeast Asian export silver compotes, ca 1920. Each: Shallow bowl with pierced and chased birds and flowers. Enameled rim with raised scallops interspersed with berries and leaves. Support has ribbed knop. Foot raised with applied foliate medallions with polychrome enamel. Foot rim encircled with animals scurrying along leafing branch (also applied). Striking and unusual. Hallmarked. Very good condition.
